Here's some good news: in the coming weeks, iPhone will put a filter icon in the upper right corner of your text inbox. If you click that filter, all those spam fundraising texts will vanish. Hooray! More here: https://www.tomsguide.com/phones/iphones/ios-26-messages#section-filter-out-unknown-senders

I received a text on Saturday screaming delight about a candidate in Louisiana outperforming expectations by 37 points to win her election. NOT FROM HER but from another candidate in Louisiana whose election hasn’t happened yet. Once election results were reported, after the polls closed LATER THAT DAY, it turned out that she came in at 40% total and didn’t even push her Republican opponent into a runoff. And it turns out that FAKE! NEWS! is my breaking point. I am now halting my monthly to the DNC and replying “stop” to every political text I get. However the real reason I’m commenting here is because Bonica’s post was one of the top hits I got when I searched for information about this problem. Your post came up in a subsequent search about Hakeem Jeffries’ position on the issue. It looks like there’s nothing but crickets to follow up on what Bonica pointed out months ago. My daughter’s been telling me for years that the Democrats are just as bad as the Republicans. I stopped arguing with her months ago… now I’m even starting to believe her. YES, I realize that I shouldn’t say things like that because infighting will be disastrous. Hmmm, maybe I’ll go change my voter registration back to Independent, too. Then nobody can accuse me of infighting, right? Yep… that sounds like the answer.

Subject line is too good. Nice job.

Not small nor churlish. At all! Necessary. And infuriating.

Ugh. All I can do is report these fundraising emails and texts as spam and block them. Thanks for trying to follow up. As you say, the powers that be just want this story to blow over. More Grandparents in Iowa will see their retirement funds siphoned off.

No, but imagine if the DNC mined bitcoin and funded itself using captured landfill methane. Precisely the kind of double-whammy problem solving and creativity to which the Democratic Party seems wholly allergic.

Also, according to this study, more than half of Bitcoin is now mined using renewables while coal is down to 8% and falling. Not to derail the convo but important to note.

https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0959652624029652

The ‘Cambridge Digital Mining Industry Report’ says the 52.4% use of sustainable energy sources for Bitcoin mining, which includes 9.8% nuclear and 42.6% renewables such as hydropower and wind, compares to a 2022 estimate of 37.6% overall sustainable energy use.

to be clear, I otherwise truly appreciated this email. the whole ecosystem is basically a disaster and none of it actually works (see: everything), so thank you.
