Micah- I have been very impressed with your writings over the last year. We have two challenges right now - and they are different. The first is to mobilize everyone that we already have., Indivisible and the "Fight Back Table" will be doing that. April 5th's demonstrations will be the first real test of how large that can be. But the second challenge we must take up is reaching the people we don't already have. In particular, those 19 million who voted for Biden in 2020 but did not cast a ballot at all in 2024, new voters and some who voted for Trump. To do that we need organizers who are well trained, who will use a language and an organizing process that will reach those folks. I see the first happening - the mobilization of who we already have. But we also need to figure out how to make the second happen. One other point: at every meeting and in every email, the most important answer to the question "what can I do" should be" reach out to your friends and relatives and get more people to join a group." We will win when 20 million Americans ( the same number as marched after the murder of George Floyd) are in organized groups capable of sustained and coordinated action.
Thanks for this useful information. On Saturday, March 8, 200+ people attended the International Women's Day rally in Hastings, hosted by Concerned Families of Westchester and initiated by the Women's March. This was our largest rally ever, and showcased an outpouring of anger from women (mostly) across Westchester and beyond. On Saturday in Hastings, our weekly vigil will focus on the injustice being suffered by pro-Palestinian organizer Mahmoud Khalil, kidnapped by ICE and threatened with deportation. Warburton and Spring St., 12 noon. Please join us.
This is a new DemLabs solution which lets activists mobilize supporters (who can stay anonymous) without using email, texts or phone calls. It costs $5/month for unlimited alerts.
Activist's Three Step Guide For Rapid Mobilization
It is time for some of that "Good Trouble" John Lewis reminded us of before he passed. We should remember Congressman Lewis and all of those brave Civil Right Fighters by doing as they have done. It is time to " "Pray for the dead, and fight like hell for the living!" Mother Jones said that. She was from an earlier time in American history. Further back in our history we received assistance from France during our American Revolution. A French phrase we should all learn: coup d'é·tat.
I am not able to find an authoritative voice for this quote: "It is Time to Raise Some Hell!" It is time and we should. 😎
Hello Micha, I am the photographer who shot the Mt holyoke stand out image you are using in this post. Great work, please get in touch at paul.shoul@gmail.com
Micah, thank you for these updates that help me keep my heart steady. A small correction on a photo caption. Mt. Holyoke is a fancy college in S. Hadley MA. The activists in the nearby city of Holyoke MA deserve correct attribution for standing over the highway. Thanks! ~ Dina
Micah-- Excellent rundown on who is organizing and fighting now. Lots of people are engaged online and many are making the additional push to calling their representatives through the 5calls app-- a painless and helpful way to activate reticent voters. But your advice to join/make a group is powerful as joining a collective feels so much more invigorating as there are always people ready to join a protest, make a planning meeting and share resources. The group I joined has a union leader, rabbi, restauranteur, gardeners, retired teachers, and neighbors-- 40 or so people who are from the retirement years full of energy, skills, and commitment. This kind of pattern can happen anywhere and everywhere. Are they leftists? Is that term meaningful anyway? I dont think so.
But one thing for sure is people were tired of democrats asking for money in every communication and not saying one thing they had accomplished. We are tired of a leadership that wait, says don't do anything: it is insulting and it is off the mark.
Precious days and months have passed without any pushback on the election results. Most people I know thought there was action behind the scenes with lawyers attempting to file recounts in the swing states. But no, nothing. It is then that many people wondered if money is keeping their mouths shut. Why no response from our leaders?
Your response that Schumer and Jeffries are not activists; it is not their job. That makes sense but the corollary-- what is their job-- needs to asked. And I think it will be answered by those voices emerging.
Thank you for this informative column on point at every level.

That’s such a great point about getting people to join a group.

Great insights as always. My friend George Bounacos does a good job rounding up the days outrage at https://gbounacos.substack.com/
