Trying to think clearly about the unthinkable. If a super-intelligent AI is on our doorstep, many well-intentioned attempts to regulate it or control it will fail.
Ok. I’ll amend that. AI can’t knock on doors and have personal conversations about values, personal life experiences that led them to have those values, and why those values compel them to support a particular candidate, nor listen to the person who answered the door and respond from the heart as well as the mind when that person shares their values and life experiences, making eye contact all the time. Can they? Well, Lt. Cmdr. Data could. I don’t think we’re there yet, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we get there sooner than we develop regs equivalent to the ones the Federation has, flawed as those are. Hmmm…
I well remember your review of the book on campaigning that detailed why most suck. Yeah, it’s not as though the scenario I described is the norm even without AI! But the Chicago story you tagged shows why it should be! I did a Deep Canvassing training in Staten Island, but there was a heat wave that day and I wound up sitting on the sidewalk instead of canvassing. Dehydrated, I guess. But I tried to incorporate some of what I learned into regular canvassing later.
Yudkowsky is not a founder of anything except AI doomsaying.
AI can’t knock on doors in 20 degrees

Oh, I agree with your point. But the frustrating truth is that most political campaigns don't value, or have the money to invest in valuing, the kind of deep canvassing you're describing here. See this 2022 post from EveryDistrict about the reality of field campaigns: https://everydistrict.us/blog/fixing-field-how-democrats-got-off-track-and-how-to-rebuild/
