The CableTV bundling practice is a potential leverage point to fix a few things with the media.
We should be pressing for laws that do not allow CableTV and probably soon Internet) bundling where the supplier gets to pick the elements of a bundle. There should be the option for complete a la carte selections. And discounts could be made for custom bundles where the items are selected by the consumer. But automatic bundling of selected "channels" where a user is forced to get channels they don't particularly want should not be allowed.
The first thing this would do is deny Fox News of one of its primary funding sources. That would be excellent.
But it could also be used to fund these new public news sources (assuming folks choose them).
Would have to be carful to avoid pay to play by the likes of Fox News to create artificial incentives to pick their channels..

Anything that reduces Fox News' ubiquitous presence would be a good thing!
